Make A Wish

After viewing a variety of different websites, all in which were uniquely different, it was the Make a Wish Foundation website that really drew my attention. The bright colors, pictures and simple layout are all things that I considered when choosing to analyze this website.
The website was created by a member of the Make a Wish Foundation. After reviewing the website in greater detail, I found this foundation to be very creditable and reliable for what they say and believe. I myself have personal experience with this foundation. When my younger cousin was diagnosed with a brain tumor, Make a Wish Foundation was able to grant a wish for her. It was always Kendall's dream to go to Disneyland and it was the Make a Wish Foundation that made that dream possible.
It is obvious to see just from the headline alone, "Make a Wish",  that this websites sole purpose is to raise money to be able to make sick children's dreams come true. Their goal and purpose is apparent through the pictures and stories told on the website and the mission statement that is displayed: "We grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy." The website allows you to read stories and the wishes of just a few of the children they have brought joy to.
The audience is targeted to anyone who is willing ot donate time and money to help make the dreams of a child come true. There have even been many celebrities that have donated their time and money for this cause including, Jennifer Garner, My Chemical Romance and Donald Trum, that's just to name a few. It is important for the audience to see that the organization they may choose to help and give money to is reliable. That is why it is important for the author to keep in mind how the layout and information is presented.
You may expect a website that raises money for children with life-threatening medical conditions to be more somber but the tone for this website is full of hope and joy to show the audience that their organization brings happiness into a child's life.
This websites main appeal is pathos. By displaying pictures of young children with smiles and laughter I am able to observe the goodness this organization brings. These pictures also lead to how the author used ethos. The pictures show the audience and myself that this organization would be worth my time and money. This site contains pictures of celebrity supporters and large sponsors such as Delta Airlines and Disneyland. I am able to observe this through logos. By seeing a celebrity and large corporations involvement brings the reader to believe that this organization is real.
I think it is important for  a writer to take a critical approach when reading information on the internet to make sure that the source and author you are taking your information from is reliable. completing this assignment has shown me the importance of analyzing the information presented on a website and I am now able to see the purpose just by looking at the color, layout and headlines posted before even reading further into the articles.

I especially liked your observation of how one might think that a website for children with life-threatening illnesses would most likely be somber, but this one is bright and almost upbeat. Excellent insight into the nature of the organization...

Hey Ally, I thought you did a good job analyzing the content of this site. I thought that it was a good point how you brought up that there are many sponsors and donators to this organization, such as celebrities and Disney Land and how you said by looking at the photos and reading the stories that this organization would be worth your time and money. I think that by providing that information it draws people in, you know, showing celebrities and large coporations' involvement, it's like a form of advertisement, but in this case for something good.
